The Spirit of Independence, the Spirit of Foopak: Guiding Indonesia Towards a Green Future!

Eight decades ago, Indonesia achieved independence through struggle and sacrifice. Today, one of the crucial challenges this nation must face is environmental issues. In its 80th anniversary of independence, the meaning of “independence” has shifted to freedom from dependence on things that damage the earth, such as single-use plastic. Today’s independence is the courage to innovate for sustainability. Protecting the earth is a form of patriotism that is relevant in the modern era and a legacy for future generations.

Speaking of sustainability, Indonesia is currently experiencing a plastic waste emergency. The Jatibarang landfill is a clear example of the impact of plastic waste, receiving an average of 900-1,000 tons of waste per day. However, plastic waste management remains ineffective at this landfill, which has been operating since 1992. As a result, the Jatibarang landfill has been overloaded since 2022 and is at risk of landslides and other hazardous disasters.

Responding to this challenge, PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper, part of Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), developed Foopak Bio Natura, an environmentally friendly packaging solution born from a spirit of innovation and concern for the earth. Foopak Bio Natura is presented as a plastic-free and biodegradable packaging alternative. This product is not only an answer to environmental issues, but also a symbol of a new freedom: freedom from plastic waste, and freedom for a greener future.

Towards Indonesia Emas 2045, green industry is key to sustainable development. Foopak’s presence aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda and the government’s target of transitioning to a green economy. Through sustainable innovation, Foopak supports MSMEs, the creative industry, converted and printed products, and the younger generation who want to create without leaving a carbon footprint. This vision is not just a dream, but a concrete step towards a clean and independent Indonesia.

The impact is tangible, reducing waste volume, reducing carbon emissions, and providing environmentally safe packaging alternatives. Collaboration with local and international partners strengthens Foopak’s commitment to realizing a green and sustainable Indonesia.

In the spirit of Independence Day, Foopak invites brand owners, converters, and business players to capitalize on this momentum by creating a series of thematic independence-themed packaging. This initiative aims to increase consumer interest and engagement in celebrating independence through environmentally friendly packaging.

Independence Day is not only about remembering history, but also about safeguarding the future. Foopak, through sustainable packaging innovation, proves that local innovation can drive global change. Together with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), the spirit of independence is being voiced in a more relevant and impactful way, while also contributing to preserving the earth for future generations. Because truly, true independence is when we are free from the threat of environmental damage
