The global packaging industry is currently experiencing remarkable growth, with Asia playing a pivotal role in driving this expansion. However, this growth has also led to increased environmental concerns, primarily due to the insufficiently developed packaging collection and recycling systems. According to a 2023 report by the World Economic Forum, consumers in Europe express the highest levels of concern and are willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products. In addition to the environmental challenges posed by plastic packaging, a study from World Economic Forum reveals an alarming issue closer to home. The study estimates that between 31,000 and 42,000 tonnes of microplastics (equivalent to 86 trillion to 710 trillion microplastic particles) are being spread onto European farmland soils each year. This staggering amount mirrors the concentration of microplastics found in ocean surface waters.

To address these concerns, APP’s group products, Foopak Bio Natura offers an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastic packaging. This product has earned the plastic-free certification from Flustix, making it a sustainable packaging option for direct contact food packaging paperboard. It is also recyclable, making it an ideal choice for takeaway food service, beverages, and ready-to-eat food packaging. APP’s group product suite includes OBA-free and PFAS-free food packaging products, which meet US FDA standards and carry Halal, Reach, and BfR certifications for food contact. The product range includes hard-sized, greaseproof, extensive kit levels of papers and boards suitable for oven, microwave, and freezer packaging, as well as liners for bakery, dairy, and confectionery products.
